How common are reactions to pneumococcal vaccine in pediatrics?

Overdiagnosis of vaccine allergy is a major public health problem http://buff.ly/1tI9y44

The 23-valent-polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccine (PPV23) is recommended for patients at high risk for invasive disease from Streptococcus pneumoniae and is also used in the evaluation of patients with suspected immunodeficiency.

In a chart review of 173 pediatric patients, local reactions to PPV23 occurred in 50% of recipients. Systemic reactions only occurred in 1% of recipients.
